Distant Pairs - Ingrid Laubrock & Veryan Weston
In May I was supposed to play an opening solo set for my old friend and college, British pianist Veryan Weston, as part of The Issue Project's spring season. Since the plug had to be pulled on that one, Issue commissioned a collaborative work from the two of us. The idea was to figure out ways to collaborate without being able to meet or play together and to find ways of representing the self-isolation we found ourselves in this year.
Filming and recording is definitely a new field for me, and so is editing for Veryan. We both attacked it head on and learned a lot - it's been a really fun and wild process with many thought-provoking and inspiring email exchanges about art and life (as well as a quite a few moments of yelling at the computer on my part). Working together turned out to be a beautiful way of feeling less isolated.

Stir Crazy Series
'Stir Crazy' are weekly home-recorded episodes Tom Rainey and I put up on Bandcamp for free. About the series:
Our stir crazy minds need some release and for those who are cooped up but would rather be out listening to music, so we offer this: We've decided to put home recorded improvised duets up here until this madness is over and we can meet for real again. The music is recorded onto a Zoom device using only the internal mics. No audiophile quality, but honest and hearfelt music.
I am a tenor and soprano saxophonist and composer, living in Brooklyn/NYC.
Musicians on record:
LARK is Ralph Alessi (trumpet) , Kris Davis (piano) , Ingrid Laubrock (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone), Tom Rainey (drums)
Recording information: recorded by Paul Geluso at Dolan Studios, NY (06/05/2011), mixed by Paul Geluso/Ravi Coltrane and LARK at Dolan Studios (08/12/2012), mastered by Liberty Ellman (02/21/2013), (Skirl CD 022)
